ASTM A179 Carbon Steel U Bend Welded Longitudinal Finned Tubes For Oil Refining Projects
The longitudinal finned tubes are similar to the welded spiral finned tubes. This welding structure can be used in any actual heat transfer application. The longitudinal finned structure is commonly used in shell and tube applications, with heat being transferred between the fluid flowing through the holes of the finned tubes and the fluid flowing through the holes of the shell.
Manufacturing process: The longitudinal finned tubes are produced by resistively welding fins along the length of the tube. The fins are U-shaped. The base tube is cut to the appropriate length and then the fins are oriented and resistively welded along the length of the tube.
Common base pipe/tube material: carbon / alloy steel (A106, A179, A335 P5, P22, P9, etc.); stainless steel TP304, TP316L,TP321, etc.;copper alloy CuNi 70/30, CuNi 90/10, etc and other material. Generally the material of fins is the same with the base tubes' material.

Tests:Transverse or Longitudinal Tension Test, Flattening Test, Grain Size, Flaring Test, Flange Test, Hardness Test, Hydrostatic Test or Nondestructive Electric Test.
Typical Application Scenarios In Oil Refinery
1. Air preheater of the heating furnace (Airlpreheater): It recovers the residual heat from the high-temperature flue gas by using the low-temperature combustion air. This is a classic application of longitudinal finned tubes. The flue gas flows through the shell side (finned side), and the air flows through the tube side.
2. Reactor and hydrogenation unit reaction products/feeds heat exchanger: Use the hot reaction products to preheat the cold raw materials. The process gas flows through the shell side (fin side).
3. Coolers for natural gas and refinery gas: Cool various process gas streams.
4. Air Coolers: Although air coolers typically use horizontal finned tubes, in certain specific cases, vertical finned tubes are also employed. The air fans force the air to blow over the finned tube bundles, cooling the process fluid within the tubes.
